currently restoring a 1937 chevy truck . Starting from scratch no wiring no lights ect. Would like to have functioning taillights-turn signal and brake lights , What would be the most original looking lights I could add? Should I start with a wiring harness from a 40s or 50s. I've installed a 1958 235 engine with a 5 speed T5 transmission, updated hydraulic brake and clutch system .and converted to 12 v. Any ideas or suggestion would be helpful.

Please do not use the word "restoring"!

You should be able to get good advice from H.A.M.B. or Jalopy Journal. They cover the hot rod alterations.
Good luck, Mike

order original style tail lights for both sides from jimcarter and you will be just fine on tail lights.....using 12 volt bulbs. did it on my 37 over 20 years and still havent had a problem.

I agree with Achipmunk that there are multiple sources for 1937 style taillights that will work for you.
You heading into a project with lots of variables and unknowns. I suggest that you need to establish a clear picture of what you expect to be. That will help you determine when you need to use custom or "hot rod" parts as compered to original.
Based on the brief information in your note I agree with Antique Mechanic. This is well beyond the scope of a restoration project.

You might want to search for LED conversion kits for the original style lights. I believe they are available from www.fillingstation.com.
