If they are 6 volt horns, 12 volts will burn them up.

If they are 6 volt horns, 12 volts will burn them up. I was under the impression that 12 volts wouldn't damage them as you are only using them for a brief moment. I understand one could burn them up internally if one "laid on the horn" . Also you can run them in series after isolating one from ground.

A 6 volt will ot be marked because all horns were 6 volt years ago....12 volt is usually marked.

If they are 6 volt horns, 12 volts will burn them up. Not true if they are used normally. As a child, when my parents bought a different car (12v), dad would immediately go to the salvage yard and bring home 6v horns because the stock 12v horns weren't loud enough. Never did any of the horns burn up. Granted, if you lay on the horns for an extended period of time they will be damaged but normal usage will not harm them.
