I have been trying to find a sample of the Brewster Green paint and the Hammertone interior

Barry Weeks was kind enough to send me some information on the colors. Very nice guy by the way...

“For 1940 truck Brewster Green Medium, I have the original Ditzler (PPG) number as: DAL-40042. The modern offset for that should be: -43845. The DAL prefix was for straight lacquer. Using a DAR prefix gets you acrylic enamel (Delstar), and using a DAU prefix gets you urethane (Delthane).“

My problem is finding the paint or a sample that I can look at. I have contacted the usual venders and those who have it are unable to send me a sample. The December issue of the G&D has a beautiful picture of a 1941 in Brewster Green. The owner and the painter we’re both friendly but could not produce a sample.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

You're right about Barry Weeks--one of the finest human beings around!

From my experience, I think it will be difficult (or near impossible?) to secure a small sample of the actual paint. Paint vendors are generally not willing to mix up a simple sample--you may have to purchase a quart. We used to have a vendor in our area who was willing to mix up a pint, but they are no longer in business. Last time I was looking at various colors, I had to order a couple quarts from Autocolor Library (and this gets pretty expensive!).

At any rate, Autocolor Library sells both quarts and gallons of Brewster Green, in both acrylic enamel single stage and urethane basecoat/clearcoat. Jim Carter Trucks sells the color in enamel single stage, but I think only in gallons. If you have a good local autopaint vendor, I would check if they'd be willing to mix up a pint.

Good luck!

Jim

Now if we could just have the individuals who have taken the time to find what they consider the correct paint and have them send in the paint codes, we could simply go to our favorite paint source and get a sample made ourselves. It may seem that there would be chaos but with feed back from members and judges, samples could be rated as to the better matches. Better than guessing....

By the way, every major paint vender I talked to will make me a 1-2 oz touch up bottle.
