It might be of some help to you.

I have a puller that has small enough jaws that can grab the ring. Might also use a small flat ended soft (brass) punch to tap around the inside edge. It will be necessary to only move it slightly with each tap. Probably take several trips around the gear to get it off. How Sweet the roar of a Chevy four!
