I've been searching high and low for a replacement gas tank for my '38 Chevy Truck. I haven't had much luck. I've found many for a car and many on every year but my '38. Does anyone have any advice on where to look?

As a last resort you might try a fabrication shop and have
them fabricate a tank ? hood

That looks like what I will have to do. I have a call into a local aluminum welding shop that I used to work for. If I can't come across one I will go that route.

There are outfits that specialize in restoring fuel tanks. Your original would have to be very bad to not be restorable. It's not cheap but likely much less than paying to have one fabricated AND you know it'll fit.

For some reason Chevy in its infinite wisdom decided that the '38 truck tank would be unique for that year. I agree with Tiny that I would research restoration before fabrication.

While I agree that a fabricated tank will probably work, I doubt if the shop can make it fit the space as well as an original and have the same capacity and mountings. I expect that it will also be made from thicker material to prevent flexing and oil canning. They will probably not be able to stamp the strengthening ribs into it.

Exactly correct about the '38 tank. However, I will assist in the construction of the tank so it will have a chance to be closer to fit.

Camile, it would be worth your time to check with JimCarter truck parts in Mo. I've been there many times and he has good used parts in the basement and out in the yard. A phone call may ease the search.

Will do. Don't know why but I didn't check with them yet. Honestly, I was thrown off when the Filling Station didn't have one for my truck.
