What are the gear ratios on a 1923 B three speed transmission?
The 1923 Copper Cooled is 3.32, 1.77, Direct, R=4.20, and is a completely different box.
Thanks, Lou

Lou those are the same ratios for the 1925 and '26 Superior cars. My 1924 parts book shows the top cover for the superior as a square cover and the 490 transmission cover is a rectangle. You may have a 490 tranny. I don't have a 490 tranny so I can only go on the pictures in the parts book. I hope this is of some help.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the info. Since the transmissions are different, I am surprised that the ratios are the same. The water cooled has two gears on the reverse idler (Part #590198) and the Copper Cooled only has one. (No part #s listed for a car that's been recalled.)
The attached photo is a 1924 model B. The bolt pattern is square but the box top appears rectangular. If not original, it appears to have been there for quite some time. My 4 cyl parts book only shows the case used 1925 - 1930. (#353300)
Thanks again for your enlightenment. Lou

That is a Superior transmission. Looks just like my '25.
