Hello
When I installed the intake manifold on my '54-'55 235 engine (3835911) I noticed that the carb. is not level. It is 1/2 inch lower towards the front of the engine. According to the master parts manual, I believe I have the correct intake manifold (3835590) and exhaust manifold (3835587). My head # is 3835913. My block #s is 3835911, con 1, D224. The con # is the same on the head. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you

I think if you matched up your original 216 manifold, you will find the base would be level. Some folks just use the 216 manifold. There are stepped intake spacers that you can buy to help mount the old manifold.

My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .

The engine will be going into a '37 1/2 ton p.u. model GC. I have not put it in yet, trying to work out all the bugs first.

That intake is designed for a later model were the engine tilts down in the back. This makes the carburetor level.

I would be mounting the engine 1st then looking at the carb position. Having done a couple of engine transplants there is a lot of things that cant be properly sorted far ahead final fitting.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will set it in and see what it looks like. I thought that by using the same bell housing and front mount from my '37, everything would be the same. I do have a manifold from a '56 235 engine. If when I get it in and it still doesn't look right, I will try the other manifold. The carb is level setting on that engine. I will let you know how it turns out.

Honkle -

I wouldn't worry about the forward slope of the carb. Several years ago I ran a '54 235 in my '40 for about a year and the carb. had the forward slope you are talking about and it ran just fine as my work car (over 100 miles a day). Unrelated was that the 235 had a Rochester carb with an automatic choke that never worked right and had to be wired open.
