Does anyone know if any other year steering boxes interchange with the 32 box? Also, are there numbers on the box to indicate what year it is from?
Thanks

I have one but the steering shaft has the threads holding the steering wheel broken off. I don't know how to get the worm off the shaft.

Hello Cabboy,
I believe that the worm and shaft are one piece, from what I see in "chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com"- 1929-54 Master Parts - Index: Steering 6.507-6.886 - Page 395 picture of worm and shaft together #6.524 - Page 400 lists #6.524 Shaft, steering gear, with worm 31-32 260366. Maybe the steering wheel end of the shaft could be cut off and replaced by welding on a serviceable end. Just thinkin.

From the looks of it the worm is pressed in place. Looks like the end of the shaft is splined. Maybe can be pressed off with a press? Maybe someone can confirm this? I have 1929s and have only worked on that box. As only the threaded portion is gone I had thought of drilling the end on a lathe and threading in a correct threaded rod or screw to repair. I had originally though of it as a spare but I have enough correct 1929 boxes already.
