I am working on restoring both an extension trunk and a smaller (Potter? I have heard it referred to). I have a few of questions:
1. The racks for the trunks are different lengths, I have very nice metal strips for the smaller rack. Are the width and ends the same for the extension trunk rack. I have heard that the strips for the extension trunk rack are narrower.
2. If the strips are different can someone provide me some pictures of the extension trunk strips with some dimensions so I can make some new ones?
3. Does anyone have proof-positive that the smaller trunk was NOT offered by the dealer in 1931? I know the extension trunk was.
4. What was the point of the extension trunk? You wouldn't really drive down the road with the trunk extended since it doesn't close, right?
There is a picture of the extension trunk and rack in the Chevrolet Service News from May 1932, Not a great picture and will probably be no help to you.

I have a potter trunk that came with my 32 confederate. It needs some work. I am not tracking what you mean on the track. If it is something inside the potter trunk, I don't think the one i have has that. I would have to look.
When I bought my 32 three years ago the guy gave me many spare parts, among them brand new trim for the extension rack, which were too short. I had my new ones made, aprox 9/16 wide slightly convex and 36 inches long with rounded ends. He did a great job on them.

Here is a photo of my 31 Roadster with the correct Potter trunk. I was told that the extension trunk was mainly for Phaetons. The extension trunk was used when the top was folded down. This way you could get access to the trunk, since the top would be laying on top of the trunk lid.
