We're moving and I recently sorted through some boxes of parts I got way back in 1987 when I bought my 1954 3100. I found I had a clock housing which I had been ignoring. It is apparent NOS in the beat up original box which says:
Chevrolet Clock Housing Instrument Panel All Commercial Trucks Group No. 9.772 Part No. 986960
I popped the part number on eBay and was surprised to find ridiculously high asking (not selling) prices for this part. Does anybody have an idea of what these might be worth or of any recent sale prices. The housing is in excellent condition (painted beige) still packed in the the original paper with a paper bag containing washers, nuts, and instructions but I find no template which I think should have come with it but should be pretty easy to make. I do not have a clock for the housing.
Thanks for any info.
Scott

I think the last one I seen sold for around $250? I've also seen a few reproduction ones. I believe the clock is the same as the 1954 Chevrolet car clock.

In my opinion, 250 would be a good deal. Espexially for NOS. It is one of those surprising parts on pricing. Sending you a PM with info for someone I think may be a buyer.

I agree with Greg. I had two that I sold last year....one was a NOS with template and screws, etc...sold it on Craigslist for $375 in one hour and had follow-up emails six month later to see if it was still for sale. the second one, without the box, but with the template copy, sold in two hours for $300. I knew that I was very reasonable on my prices, but I paid MUCH less for them Having a '54 for over 25yrs., this don't come up very often any more and most of them are in the $500+ range. And many of the passenger clocks will fit for a finished look. It does not have to be a '54 truck clock! Good luck on your dale.

If your interested party doesn’t follow through on the purchase, I would be happy to listen to your offer. I have the clock but no housing for my truck. And best of all, I’m NOT a dealer. I would give it a good home!
Thanks!

....forgot to mention. If you have spare parts for your 54 3100 that are no longer needed. I would be interested.

Thanks for all the info from everybody
I did find someone on jalopyjournal.com listing a reproduction clock housing for $350 back in 2014.
I am missing the template which is probably still with the guy that sold me the truck and parts back in 1987 since my clock housing box included a note on a piece of paper obviously from the cut template which read "Template in Dictionary", LOL. If anyone has a copy of the template it would be great and I am able to provide a copy of the instructions if anyone needs them. However, I have found a picture of the template which will enable me to accurately make one easily enough from paper pencil rubbings or foil moldiing on the dash and the housing but the orignal or a facsimile would be better.
For Survivor54 or anyone else interested I will be selling the clock housing but probably after I have found or reconstructed a template. I will also be selling other parts after I have done an inventory. Probably 75% of the useful original parts I have will just relate to the dash and streering column since my truck came with a complete dash pull and partial steering column from another truck. I do not have the dash itself, just things attached to it since my truck needed the dash replaced when I got it due to some rather crude modifications it had from a previous owner.
I do have some other parts that came with the truck as well as some I bought on junkyard visits back in the day. I lived in Toledo then and there was a junkyard out by the airport that had, I believe, 14 virtually complete Chevy trucks from 1948-1955 as well as hundreds of other vintage vehicles. Part hunting was fun and you just brought it up to the owner, a very nice guy, who would generally put a very reasonable price on the items. The only small problem was that he had some pretty scary huge boar hogs running around free in the junkyard that would startle the heck out of you.
Perhaps PM me if there is something particular needed and I will look specifically for that part. Especially if it is something odd I might not recognize since I hate to think what I might have pitched back in 87'.

Oldblue...Bob again, and I did find copies of the template as well as the installation instructions for the housing. Just reply back here with your email address and I will scan and email the two copies to you. Can't do it until tomorrow, the 6th. Bob

Thanks so much Bob. Your efforts are much appreciated but I found the template this morning on a forum post on 1954advance-design.com. Gotta love the internet and I would post a link but as a newbie here I am not sure what is allowed.
The PDF printed out exactly to scale matching my clock housing however beware when I downloaded the PDF and printed it again it was not to scale. Perhaps it was my technique but FYI for anyone interested the 2 lower screws are almost exactly if not exactly 2 and 3/4 inches apart center to center but then they should be able to check that themselves.
