Hello just joined VCCA this morning in hopes of establishing a good knowledge base information network and advice on my latest project which is a 1932 Confederate roadster.

A brief background on me I have been playing with cars for 30 years now I've done several motor builds assemblies installations swaps so I consider myself to be "advanced hobbyist level"obviously a 32 is a different machine That goes outside my area of experience so I'm looking for assistance guidance with the right people to do things.

BIGGEST NEED is a convertible top replacement. I am in Northwestern Montgomery County Pennsylvania and need to network to find someone who would know what they're doing to put a top on this car.

Shop manual is already ordered owners manual is already ordered and I have been reading everything I can find on the Internet as far as information on the vehicle so I have taken the obvious 1st steps but would enjoy hearing people's thoughts

Welcome. This is the site for the best answers for your Chevrolet particularly if about factory original equipment. Not too many of us here have much experience with major modifications. Preserving these old Chevrolets and the history they represent is one of our purposes.

Are you the purchaser of the yellow '32 Roadster that ended recently on Ebay? The '32 Roadster is one of the most desired Chevrolet. Looked to be a good solid car until the cat went through the top. Being too far from Pennsylvania can't help with top replacement.

Good deduction yes. was looking at its twin in mass. auction but went too high a d didnt hit reserve anyhow. this one had been out on Facebook marketplace for a while and they must've given up and sold out to this dealer in AZ. wood frame appears solid. will be dealing with issues from long term storage----- tuneup, fluids, carb good going through of cooling systems belts hoses grease water pump etc.... just in time for a good winter project

Definite intent on my part is conservation! too much cut up stuff out there already

Dealer in AZ was likely only the broker. There are plenty of brokers in the old car market place. Basically dealers selling vehicles on commission. None the less once you get it home then we will be ready with answers. Give us time (maybe a few days) as some of us are on daily but have other obligations that take up research time.

When Hampton coach was in business, you could simply order a new roof kit and install it yourself or find a good trimmer to do it. With them gone, roof replacement is much harder. If your roof is in decent shape other than ripped, a good canvas shop should be able to disassemble your roof at the stitches, use it as a pattern, and stitch you up a new one. While I’ve work on a few old cars now, I had never done an antique roadster or Cabriolet before I installed the roof on my 32’ Olds. My roof came out very well and there’s no reason why most people can’t do it themselves if they already in the process of doing other restoration things on their car. There are still some HC videos on the net that show how to install a roof on a model A roadster and it wouldn’t be much different on the Chevy. Taking many pictures of the details when you remove your roof and looking at other roadsters would help you install your roof or you could have a trimmer do it all. If you do attempt your roof, don’t waste your time with an electric stapler. By an air stapler and use 3/8” long SS staples. You will also need some good old tack and a tack hammer for the reinforcement webbing used in the roof upper corners.

Thought I’d add this site where you could purchase the material and hardware needed to recreate your convertible roof.
