Dad's early 1950's pickups that he had in the business had them. They used a different oil than the engine. 30 SAE (Standard American Engineering) is to heavy. I can not recall but may have been 10 SAE?

For what it is worth SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers. It is a professional group of "automotive engineers" most working in the "automotive" field that test, write test procedures and formulate standards that segments of the "automotive" community can use. The standards allow manufacturers and users to have products available to aid in maintaining their products or equipment. In a past life I participated in standard and test validation. It was an all encompassing task with input from major manufacturers, suppliers, academicians and users. The standards make the automotive business much easier to navigate.

From what I can find 1962 was the last year for oil bath air cleaners or the dry mesh type for the base 6 Cyl. and smaller 8 Cyl. engines.
