Going through my parts and the Generator and 2 spares that I have are 1102667 which appear to be for 1940-48. Mine should be 1100004 but I have none and one of the 667 is rebuilt in a box with warranty card.
I will search for the correct generator. I suspect these 667 generators should work with my original voltage regulator but likely will not supply the full 35Amp that these can produce?

The 004 generator is a 3 brush and uses the 1938-39 simple voltage control and not a full voltage regulator. Puts out like 28 amps.
The 667 will work on 1940-1951 vehicles with the standard 35 amp generator. Number/application changed thru the years.

Thanks Gene. So the 667 will not work properly with the stock 1938 regulator/voltage control? I've found other 38's up here using the 667 but not sure if the reg is different...lots of swapping out and piecing together over the years lol...

The 667 and a voltage regulator were often used to replace the original . Was for better charging in cold weather, etc.

I would think you do not want to use the more modern generator with the 38 regulator. The 38 regulator does not regulate the current and thus the generator could burn out. The 38 three brush generator current was self limited by the third brush design.

My take on it is like yours Fred. I've spent years getting NOS regs and spare generator parts for this car without realizing I did not have the correct generator so will have to start hunting. I still have the reg I took off but it was incorrect and big and ugly.
