Yesterday I took the 51 out for a drive and wound up the clock and set the time back 2 hours. The clock had been running and keeping good time all summer. All of a sudden it doesn't. Did I break something by turning it backwards? If I have to take the movement out, does the whole assembly have to be removed from the dash or can the movement be removed from the housing on the dash? Thanks for your help.

I am no expert but I would guess that you may have wound it too tight. If you can get it to run for a while it may come out of it.

Uncle Ed,
Thanks for the reply. I found that the clock just pulls straight out of the housing so I brought it into the house where it was warmer. After several starts and stops, the clock ran overnight perfectly. I thought maybe it was just dirty and the colder temps made any gum get thicker and stop it from working. But maybe you have the answer since it stopped several times before it ran continuously and when I wound it I went right until the winding stopped. I am going to put it in the garage overnight tonight to see what happens. Thanks for chiming in!

Glad you got it going Jeff! As long as you have it out a good cleaning wouldn't hurt. They can get "gummed up".

Ed,
That was my thought since I have an ultrasonic cleaner and the proper clock oil - I have done many clocks in the past, mostly Corvette Borg movements.I am going to let it run down to see how many hours it has from a single winding and then I will rewind and put it in the refrigerator (40 degrees) and see if it runs. Just because I want to see if cold has any effect on the running which it shouldn't since these were designed to run at sub zero temps.
