Did a vacuum test on the 1929. The results are as follows, Vacuum at idle 18 psi but is not steady fluctuates rapidly about 1psi. The best running is when the carb idle adjustment is seated fully clockwise. I suspect a leak at the carb any comments appreciated.

Rapid fluctuation isn't usually carb, but I've been surprised before. Have you checked for vacuum leaks, done a compression test, and (even better) a leak down test? Closest on this chart to your symptom is a loose valve guide. Let's hope it's not that. A leak down test should help isolate valve issues, if any.

Try squirting something like WD40 or similar around the area you suspect and see if it improves the reading

Did the WD40 test, no change. Car seems to run pretty well as is, no backfire, no black smoke from tailpipe at idle or up to 2000 RPM. I think I'm going to leave as is and down the road try another carb.
Thanks for the help.

IB, I'm still thinking it may be a valve-related issue with the vacuum gauge showing rapid fluctuations (which is not typically a carb issue). If that is right, driving as-is could make whatever is going on worse. Easy to do compression and leakdown tests seem in order to rule that out.
