Can anybody help me with rebuilding a 3 speed transmission for a 1940 Chevy Pickup? I’m looking for books, videos or any step guides for rebuilding.

Thanks,
Mike

I'm going tomorrow to pick up two passenger transmissions for my '41. They should be pretty similar to your 40 pickup. Think the main diff will be where the shifter comes into play. I'm sure I will be corrected if not. This video helped me a ton in being willing to try to take my new transmission apart in hopes of rebuilding.

He has a second video on reassembly.

That's a good video set. I want to take a transmission apart now!

I bought a couple reprints of some rebuild manuals on Ebay. Was planning on using them along with the GM manuals for comparison and a video like this is a good start.

Does anybody know how this occurred? Its the gear that works with the Speedo gear.
If you will look closely you can see the raised edge on the inside edge.
Could I just cut this down? What would cause this?

Thanks,

Mike

I have just the tool for removing the input shaft bearing assembly.
I made it out of a 3 in pvc drain cap. The kind with the screw top.
Drill a hole through the top square nut the size of the input shaft.
Screw the cap parts together
Slide it over the input shaft.
Lock the input shaft against the cap.
Turn the nut and the shaft and bearing will come right out.

I took the synchros out, no problem there...  putting the locking ring back is though...   I took a ring pliers and filed down the rounded ends to make them thin and flat.   I then put them through the slot, used them to open up the ring, then slipped the tapered piece in...
