I have a manual 3 spd transmission that I picked up for nothing, the casting number shown on the case is 691747 GM with a number 48 or 49 directly under it. I have searched the archives but find nothing on transmission casting #s. I need to know if some of the internals will fit my 52 manual. The way the transmission mounting holes are located indicates that it is pre 52 at least.

You are reading the number incorrectly--its 591747 and is the case casting number for a 1949-54 passenge car 3 speed transmission.Should look like the case for your 1952 except the rear extension will not have the drilled and threaded bosses for the mount. wink

All internal parts are the same--only the rear ext. if different.

Thanks Chev Nut. I am in the process of doing a rebuild on my 3 spd, very noisy second gear. Will probably go for new parts but at least now I know I have spares if needed.
