The stamped trans. numbers have nothing to do with serial numbers, etc. The 1954 3 speed car numbers Will begin with a M or S followed by a number for the month and another number for the day of the month. A year code is not used so a 1953 could have the same numbers ans letters.

The year is not given there and the same numbers and letters were used for more than one year.

The case casing number of 591747 was used from 1949-1954. Just that they did not drill and thread the mounting holes in the case on the 1952-1954 models because the mount was bolted to the rear extension.

Hi Gene,
Owning a '52 Fleetline myself, I've heard plenty about this jumping-out-of-high-gear problem. Fortunately, I haven't had to deal with this on my cars, which seems to do fine no matter if I'm on the throttle, just cruising on the flats, or decelerating. The two times I did see this happen with a fellow VCCA member's car, we were on a flat road, and it happened when he backed off the throttle just enough to be coasting in gear. I know that the changes to the '53-'54 passenger 3-speed was partly to help correct this. What I'm curious about is have you or anyone you know ever run across this particular problem with '55 and later passenger cars?

I can not recall of a 1955 or up jumping out of high gear.........or a 1953 or 1954.
