This is actually directed to Gene concerning his article in this month’s G&D: Marvel Mystery Oil…Mystery Solved? Gene, I totally agree with everything in your article, I’ve been using MMO for decades and uncles before that. What are your thoughts about it being a fuel additive…my primary use is to help protect the gas tank, fuel lines, fuel pump and carburetor.

I is an upper (valve) lubricant if added to the gas tank. Basically it is a 10 weight oil with additives. Nothing really magical or mysterious.

It has too low of a burn temp. flash point to lubricate anything in the combustion chamber area. Adding 4 Oz. to 10 gals. of gas is way too little but they can not advertise adding more as it will increase emissions. I used to pour in half of the Qt, container to an almost empty gas tank for winter storage. Then i decieded some 2 cycle oil would be better as it has more oil body to it and a higher Temp. flash point.
All depends on whatyou want it to do and its viscosity in much lower than #10 motor oil.

I use 2-stroke gas from my lawn trimmer to prime the carburetor after a long period of setting so your idea is a good one…thanks!
