Good Day, I am new to the club and to Chevy's and am trying to learn more about the speedster I recently bought. I believe it is a 1928 AB. The body is gone and it is stripped down. The data plate in the engine compartment states 8150 as the job nbr, and body nbr K9210. The engine number is 4768064.
The vehicle does need work and one of the second questions is when did Chey go from spoke wheels to a disc wheel? I have spoke wheels and would like to purchase another spoke wheel in good order or one that can be repaired. What measurements are needed from the wheel to locate the correct one?
Thanks Paul

I believe that may have been a Sedan (a four door closed car). Do you have wire spoke or wood spoke? What is the tire size?

Body number 8150 is a 5-passenger sedan. 1928 Touring and Roadster came with wood spoked wheels. All other body style came with the disc wheel. The Touring and Roadster could be purchased with the disc wheels at an additional cost. AB indicates 1928 A speedster was not available in 1928.

Canadian built cars (1927-8) typically have the opposite wheels from USA assembled. Also if not the standard from the factory the other style wheel was an accessory.

Thanks for the information. I have had several model t fords over the years and really did not get interested in Chevy's until recently. I am impressed with car's frame as it appears to be made stronger than the model a or t frame along with its braking system. It will be a good winter project.

I asked about wire or wood spoke as he said he bought it already converted and it may have had 30 or later wheels installed by previous owner. Wanted to confirm if wood wheels were still on it before giving any advise.

I was under the impression 1927 was the first year for dish wheels.
