Need some help on my engine number: FO510A The suffix "A" makes it a 235, so what is the remainder of the number?

Stamped "A" for 3600 usage and "B" for 3800 usage which are truck identifiers.

OK, lets try the head. 3896848 casting # E 9 1 What year and CID? Now for the car serial number. 6HK - H 50335 For info the date on the block is: D - 9 - 1 Should be the same year as the head and that is? _______ Thanks for the help,

The block is May 9th of 61 235 engine. I think the 3836848 was used from 1956-1962 on the 235.

Serial number information for 6 HK H 50335.
6. = Oakland Assembly plant
HK = 1950 model year, 2100 series, Styleline/Fleetline Deluxe
H = Month assembled (eight) August
Serial Number 50335 = 49335th Styleline Deluxe vehicle assembled at Oakland plant during the 1950 model year build.

The 848 head was used from 1956 and up . Casting was changed in 1956 for te difference in the temperature gauge. After that it was sold as a eplaceent for 195-1955 235 engines and an adaptor used for the older temp gauge fitting.

I have a engine which is stamped F918J. Can you tell what it was in from that? I know the block has a 58 casting number. I guess F is for Flint. Is 9 the year? What does the J mean? Thank for any info.

J = for a 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton truck with a 3 speed transmission.
9 is for month and 18 is for the 18th day of that month.
These codes were used for several years and do not indicate year.
What is the casting number?

Block casting # is 1-17-8, 3764478. I have a 235 in my 50 which I pulled from a 61 Impala which is stamped FI0I2B casting date J-11-0 number 3769716. Thanks for the info Gene.

The B indicates a 235 engine with Power Glide. dated Oct 11the 1960 which would be a 1961 engine.3764476 (note 476) casting number was used from 1958-1962.
3769716 listed as 1960 only.

Looks like the one engine came from a 58 truck. I checked and block is drilled for hydraulic lifters. Just waiting for next project. Runs good. Thanks Gene
