When I removed the solid lifters from my 1955 chevy 235, I set them aside to be cleaned at a later date. A rooky mistake, I did not mark the position they were removed from. When cleaning them, I noticed one lifter had a small hole going thru it, near the bottom. It also had a small hole running up thru the center. Can anyone tell me why that is like that and where it would go in the lifter lineup. The engine is out of a 1954-1955 1/2 ton PU with 3 speed trans.

Thank you

The holes are for oil. Direction of the hole changes as the lifter spin around when the engine is running.

As far as I know the oil holes are in the side and there should be no holes towards the camshaft. If I am correct I would be examining the camshaft closely for correct shape and lift as the wear on the lifter will have reshaped the cam.

The hole in the lifter is for oil makes sense, but what I don't understand why there is only one lifter with the holes. The other 11 have no holes. Should all the solid lifters have holes?

That one is a later replacement. It was a running change made in the'50's.
