I had good luck with my repair today. I took it off the car and opened it up and it was rusty as all get out. Looked like a lost cause, I oiled it at the ends of the motor. The motor was bad corroded. One of the brushes had lost it's cotter key and spring from the end. Made a spring from a ballpoint pin spring. Then put some lube spray on the shaft ends, as I worked it around with my hand, it freed up. I hooked my battery to it and it began to budge a little. I repeated the oiling several times and it began to spin. After a while it began to spin fast and free. I wire brushed what I could, sand-papered what I could, cleaned what I could. I cut two new paper gaskets out of some heavy paper I had. Wire brushed the outside connection screws and tried the wires again. They worked. Put it all back on and my wife heard it and came out to see. She said it did not sound like a horn. It had about 4 tablespoons of rust and sand in it and the diaphragm was a little rusted. It appeared to have not been opened since 1927, paper gaskets brittle and disintergating.
Things were made to last back then and if they failed, they could be fixed......not replaced.
