I have a 46 Fleetmaster coupe. I just had a 235 motor put in. Today I put in new points and plugs but the car wouldn't start. While looking around I found a wire on the negative post of the coil hanging . I would imagine it goes to the distributor but not sure where it gets tied in. There is a screw on the outside that the condenser and points connect to on the insi Does it go to that screw on the outside?
Probably a dumb question but any help is appreciated. Thanks Bob

The wire on the negative side of the coil attaches to the insulated terminal on the outside of the distributor. That terminal (red arrow in the image) feeds through the insulator, and the condenser and points connect on the inside to that. Photo is courtesy of Deve's (devestechnet.com).

You might want to post all of your 1946 questions in the 1946-1948 forum further down on the forum list page. That way you will get a lot more coverage regarding your questions.

If you don't have the reverse polarity fed distributer then the distributor must be grounded elsewhere.

Might take a look at that as well.

Best,
