What gear ratio was standard for 1954 on the 1 ton panel ???

Any optional ratios ?

It has a 5.14 ratio with no options listed.

In searching through the parts book a 4,56 ratiio used in 3/4 ton trucks an some 1 ton trucks from 1946-1958 would work. With the large 7.00X17 tires that would bring down the engine speed to 3000 RPM at 60 MPH or about the same as a car with a 4,11.
Your preent engine speed is about 3300 at 60 MPH and with the large truck fan, etc. that can make a lot of noises.

I am looking into replacing the rear axle with one from an 80's/90's 3/4-1 ton with the 8 lugs.

They made that style of axle up until 1972. I replaced the front loading rearend gear assembly in my 1951 1 Ton with one from a 1972 3/4 Ton. It has a ratio of 4.10. With my modern 750X16 tires I am able to cruise easily at 60 mph. I still have the original 4 speed and the 216 engine.


My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .

Same dimensions on the spring center to center ???

Are there any ratios available in the three's ???

I am saying that the whole gear assembly, which is sometimes referred to as the pumpkin, will bolt right in. After the axles are pulled out the assembly can be unbolted and it comes out of the front. This does not disturb the setup of the gears at all. The 4.10 ratio was used in some models between 1967 and 1972. There was a vendor who sold 3.90 new gear sets but they are no longer available.


My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .
