I know that there was a huge recall on some of them recently, the brand that begins with a "K" I can't recall the exact name

I think Halon has been outlawed and Halotron is the current no residue fire extinguisher.

Kiddie recalled many if not all with plastic handles. They gave me 6 new ones but these are dry chemical not Halotron and will leave a corrosive residue. I had a small vehicle fire and the clean up was worse than the fire.

I am going to go with Halotron on the next one I buy even though they are more expensive.

Typically I see (and what I have) is a 1A 10BC rated fire extinguisher for cars at various shows and other events. The VCCA Judging Manual states that each vehicle on the judging field must have a fire extinguisher with a minimum 5BC rating.

The number is an indicator of capacity.

The letters indicate the type of fire it should suppress.

A is combustibles like paper, cloth, and wood.

B is flammable liquids and gases e.g. grease and oil.

C is electrical.

I agree that cleanup from a fire extinguisher discharge is a lot of work. But consider the alternative!

That helps a lot. Do you know why we need fire extinguishers at a show?

Have you ever seen a vintage car that has burned? See one and you will know why.

Beside all of the above, the insurance carrier for the VCCA requires it

Also note that we always display that fire extinguisher in the same spot on every vehicle on the show field. Usually the front passenger side floorboard. This is so there is no confusion finding one in any vehicle if needed.

Those accustomed to the finest...find it in Chevrolet.

Information certainly has been helpful. Thanks to all. I checked and I have an ABC so think I will go for the HR3 Performance HG100C. I found this article by Hagerty which is quite informative. https://www.hagerty.com/articles-vi...-fire-extinguishers-for-your-classic-car Don't really show my car just like the comfort of having one if I need it. Happy Motoring and have a great day.

OK I've never been to a car show before. I have seen a car burn but it had severe problems. All the cars at the car shows I would think are in perfect running condition but it only takes one so now I know why and where to put the fire extinguisher. I just thought to see a modern item located in the car would distract from the authenticity.

Spend the extra green backs and get a Halotron extinguisher. These put out fires quickly without adding damage from residue from a basic 10bc dry chemical extinguisher. You'll appreciate having less damage. Like everything else in life, you get what you pay for and isn't your ride worth it?

I have 2 fire extinguishers in all of my cars! (1) https://www.jegs.com/i/H3R-Performance/528/HG100C/10002/-1
and (1) 10lb https://www.lowes.com/pd/First-Alert-Commercial-Fire-Extinguisher-Rechargeable/3057081
You got to look at the whole picture! It could save your life and or someone else's!
For the record I was up in the mountains of VT driving my Dads Suburban and the transmission line had broke pouring trans fluid onto the exhaust pipe and pulled over into the break down lane because there was a lot of smoke behind me and when I got out the whole asphalt was on fire under the Suburban and the good thing I had put a 10 lb ABC fire extinguisher it the truck and put that fire out fast! Only had burned some of the wires and hoses which was minor!
Yes of coarse the fire trucks arrived and a ramp truck!

Is a H3R Performance HG100C HalGuard Chrome Clean Agent Fire Extinguisher - 1.4 lbs large enough for shows? I haven't been able to find one any bigger.

Check out the commercial-grade Amerex extinguishers. These are top-end fire extinguishers. There are 2-1/2 and 5 lb Halon (not as environmentally friendly, but still available with recycled Halon) or Halotron units available, with either red or chromed tanks. Amerex has vehicle mounts, as well. They are generally available at better prices than some of the auto suppliers have for the H3R units.
