I noticed my front backing plates do not have holes to adjust the brakes. My rear ones do. Why? Also, are the front and rear wheel cylinders the same? Thx., Joe

My 38 does not have holes in the front backing plates either. Hmmm...
Both rear wheel cylinders are the same. There is a unique front Left and a unique front Right wheel cylinder as the body of the wheel cylinder is angled a bit to match the corresponding side.

Your front brake drums will have small holes for adjusting the brakes. It's a PITA but that's the way it's designed. They adjust from the outside. There's a small cover over each hole that you swing aside to access the adjuster.

The front and rear wheel cylinders are different. The bore is different size and brake line/ose different attachment.

Should look like this. The cover over the hole is at 5:30 in this photo. The cover rotates to expose the hole.

If Wisebri24 is anything like me, he was looking at the back of the brakes not the front side of the drums. I would never have expected the front though I'm sure I've seen the access door but it's never registered as it's been on loose drums being moved around.

Canadiantim, you guessed it, I never thought to look in front. Thanks all! I guess I could have worded it differently. I didn't say "front" since we were referencing the front brakes anyway. I said "outside" thinking the backing plate is "inside" so the drum would be "outside". Guess that didn't translate. I'm glad you figured it out.
