i need to take out the Windshield on my 40 Special Deluxe. I have the manual. I am going to have the dash and window garnish moldings wood grained. The glass and gasket are in great shape. Everything I see assumes that the windshield is broken to get the glass out. I want to reuse everything. What is the best sequence to get the glass out? Start in the middle, side, corners. I'm going to get a small hook tool with a ball on it to work with the rubber so I don't damage it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

The rubber seal may look good while it stays in place but be hard as the surround and not be of any use when you try to remove it. I have not tried to remove a 2 piece screen and only had limited success with removing a 1 piece without cracking even with a helper.

There are too many variables that may/will make your job unrealistic. A lot of forethought needs to go into your planning process. Let's look at a few of the variables to be considered. Will you be replacing your headliner? How can you remove the glass without scratching the paint around the window or breaking the glass? How will you reinstall the glass and get a waterproof fit? How will you keep from scratching your new wood grained dash? What do you think was the assembly order of your 1940? Why must your glass be remove to wood grain the dash? What is the logic for removing your glass instead of removing just your dash?

Here is a link to some of my posts on windshield glass replacement.
