I would like to correct the speedometer and odometer in my 54. It runs right at 10% fast. It has a 13 tooth driven gear. I have a parts book that goes to 1952 and it shows only one part for 50-52 powergluide,5&12. Are there other options, I remember at the dealer we would figure one tooth would make about 3 mph difference, so is there a 15 tooth driven gear for a 54? My next choice would be a ratio adapter.

Thanks Denny

Here is a link to the page of the 1929-54 Part Manual that shows the transmission/speedometer gears available:
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/parts/1929_54/276.htm
That page and the following pages should be useful.

Once you decide on the part and have a part number give Vintage Chevy Parts a call at 760-723-5134. He has a stock of difficult to find parts. That's where I found the selector shaft bushing for my '53. I don't know if he'll have your part but he had the unobtanium I needed.

5 and 13 is correct for all 1950-1954 Power Glide cars. Checked 1950, 1953 and 1959 parts book. Originally the 1950-1952 had one part number and the 1953 and 1954 another number. In the 1959 parts book the 1953-54 number covers 195o-1952 also. There is no 12 tooth gear listed for any passenger car with stick or PG.
Ae you running radial tires? They are of a smaller diameter and will make the speedometer run fast. I found thesame error on my 1950 when I ran radials (Went back to bias).....

The car had radial tires when I bought it, 205 15 I replaced them with 215 15. Looks like I will use a ratio adapter if I decide to get it to read closer.

My '53 is dead on (checked with a GPS) until I get to 40MPH. From there the speedometer gradually reads faster. At 60MPH indicated, the GPS shows ~56MPH. Not far enough off to worry about. At least that way I shouldn't get a speeding ticket.......

On mine the speed and miles are off close to the same, unlike the 28 the miles are real close the speed is way slow 12-15 mph so it would need recalibrated, I just use a gps on tours.
