In response to a question on the '37-'38 rumble seat upholstery, here are pictures of the cushions on my '37 sport coupe which I recently purchased.

From the documentation I received with the car, a previous owner installed an interior kit from Hampton coach. On the Hampton Coach invoice, I see that no rumble seat kit was purchased and I believe the rumble seats upholstery is original. There are some cracks developing but it is still presentable.

The rumble seat cushions appear to use a leatherette style material. The bottom cushion is darker than the seat back which I believe is due to fading from exposure over the years. The bottom cushion is a medium to dark chocolate brown color. Hope this helps to confirm the shape and material.

By the way, since this car is new to me, I'd appreciate confirmation that the rumble seat cushions are original from someone who knows. It is still possible that they were recovered in the first 20 years of life before the history is known for this car.

Tom

Thank you Tom, Those pictures help me a lot. Here are some pictures of what I think is my original rumble seat and door panels, that I am pretty sure are original. Mine is a 38,the front seat has been recovered but the sides of the seat look like the door panels and the rumble seat. Seeing your pictures I now don't think mine is the same color as yours. Is the Hampton inside seats made out of the same material? If anyone knows what color my interior is let me know. It looks to me like Army Green, but I can't imagine Chevrolet putting that ugly color in a car.

Mine is a sport coupe, so it has a mohair cloth material for the interior. It looks like your convertible uses leatherette material for both the rumble seat and the interior seat. Being an open car, that makes sense and I think the green tinge is just due to aging. It likely started out brown but I don't know the specific color for a 38 convertible. Tom

Thank you Tom, I was hoping it was a washed out brown because that is what I will put back in. I would prefer to use tan leather but that wouldn't be right.

Your seats look a lot like mine did when I restored the cabriolet. I went with a Hampton coach interior, fairly dark brown leather front seats, matching leatherette door panels and rumble seats. I have hundreds of photos and other reference materials I would be willing to share with you.

Randy, That would be great! You could PM me or just e-mail me some pictures. Did I read your post right, do you have a 38 Cabriolet?

Yes, I fully restored a 38 cabriolet about 8 years ago. The car will be at the central meet in Indiana in July. Let me know by email sailboatrj@aol.com what you would like photos of. I have many before and after shots.
