Just got my 34 fired up today for the first time since 1970 ish. Buy the short time I had it running i had 0 oil pressure on the gauge. Sump and pump screen was cleaned out during service og the engine. So is it grande problemo or do you need to prime/fill the pump when it has been dry? I have a old tractor that needs this done when the pump is dry.
Or could other things be the cause?

Or could other things be the cause? I think the gauge and open flow should be confirmed to be good before the pump is deemed suspect.

I had oil flowing out from the block when I took of the pipe for the gauge and cranked it on the starter. But I will test the gauge tomorrow. Buy there is no priming of the pump that ypu know?
But on the bright side the engine was running smooth right away, just like you parked it yesterday

If you have oil flowing the pump is already primed. It usually is not necessary to prime the pump. If oil is flowing out withj ust yhe starter ypu have good oil pressure.

The gauge is moving when i blow compressed air into it. Got oil flowing out the tube on the rockers and the rocker arms have gotten wet around the shaft. Started it up with the gauge disconnected from the pipe and I had a little oil flow out the pipe but no real big flow. Connected again, so no air left in the tube but it is same same. The pipe to the gauge is new so there is no clogs inside. Could the oil distribution block with the valve cause this or am I looking for a new oil pump? I got 5 liters of oil in the sump and max at the dipstick.

Tok off the oil block and cleaned it and replaced the gasket inside that was missing. StiKl the same. Had the distributor off and was running the pump with a drill and it is pumping oil to the rockers but still nothing on the gauge

The original pump was a vane type pump. With cold oil the pressue should be about 15 pounds at idle speed and drop to 3 pounds with hot oil. At 1000 RPM about 7 pounds with hot oil.
A 1934 engine has that amont of pressure to the main bearings only. The rocker arms and oil pan connecting rod troughs get oil from the low pressure side of the oil distributor and will be of much less pressure.

Hooked up one gauge that went to 1 bar and maxed it. Hooked up a second one that went to 6bar. While running the oilpump of a drill I had 1,5 bar on it. On idle i had almost 2 bar. So the presure looks good. So it is the gauge in the car that is the reason for evrything :)

We are not nearly as glad as you with verifying the gauge problem. Not having sufficient oil pressure and cause you to lose your hair prematurely. Also sleepless nights and sweating. Now you can enjoy your '34. Isn't it great when a sleeping Chevy wakes up and hits the road again?
How Sweet the roar of a Chevy four!

It was amazing to hear the first proper start, and also when it was so smooth right away. So just new whitewall tires, change the color of the rims to aurora red ish and the interior. Fabric is in the orders now and then I will stich it together during the summer. I will post a short video of it running on 1933-36 chevrolet owners on facebook
