I was on my home from Redding. Ca yesterday and stopped at a popular restaurant for lunch. There were 4 Model A's in the parking lot. One of them was sporting a Excelsior Stahl Sport Radial tire. I wasn't able to talk with the owner about the tire. Has anyone tried the tire? it is available through Coker and it's a little pricey at $283 each and only available in black wall. I am tempted to go with a black wall tire on my 33 the next go around and as much as I drive it I am considering the radial. Anything to keep the wife from chattering from the passenger seat!
I have had them on 2 -1931 Chevrolets and have been happy with them and have just ordered a set of 6 -18" Stahl Radials for a 1932 Chevrolet. I have a friend with a set on his 1935 Tourer and he is also happy with them and they don't give the appearance of radials and I don't think they look out of place. I was told by tyre suppliers that you should use tubes suitable for radials and other tyre suppliers told me not to worry and that either tube would be fine. They are a more expensive tyre though, I am not a huge fan of whitewalls so being blackwalls wasn't a problem for me.
Thank you for the information. I have an extra set of wheels / rims so I am thinking of using them and if for some reason I want the white walls on I can switch them. It would be nice to have a tire that doesn't wonder like the bias ply tire does.
