I have been wanting to put original tail lights on my 37 p/u so I found this one at a swapmeet today,it has Guide on the lense where all the others I seen have Chevrolet on the lense. I need to find another since I have two and turn signals,I am also wondering if its a original bracket but it looks to be broken and possibly junk now.

Jeff, can't tell you about the correct light since GMC used a different one, but the bracket looks original. Here is a picture of the bracket on my truck when I had a Chevrolet light on it briefly. GMC and Chevrolet used the same bracket.

Jeff, You have a GMC bracket and a Chevy lamp. The lens is a parts store replacement made by GM Guide division. The correct lens should say Chevrolet as you mentioned earlier. Original lamps appear regularly on eBay and often with correct lenses. I have some lenses and lamps if you want to go OEM. A decent original lamp with a Chevrolet lens will normally bring about $80.00 on eBay. Sometimes more, seldom less.
That GMC bracket is very rare compared to the Chevy bracket. Dunfire is the resident expert on GMC stuff of this era. But, he is incorrect about GMC and Chevy using the same bracket. The correct bracket for your truck is S curved, about 2 inches wide with a stiffening rib pressed into its centerline. Chevrolet NEVER made an accessory passenger side bracket or lamp without license light. Jim Carter makes one but it has a hokey tab sticking up above the lamp with EVELITE or CHEVLITE stamped into it.
Jeff, I can't tell from your photos what is broken, but someone might be glad to make a repair to have the bracket. It has value. The conduit retainer for Chevy is different. I make them and the conduit for Jim Carter, The Filling Station, and Classy Chev USA.
Jeff, this bracket was the same way when I got it. This is a the GMC bracket but it is for a the larger trucks T-16's and T-18's. I welded in the extra holes and ground it down and redrilled the correct holes. It is a driver side bracket, just bolted it to the passenger side for reference. Mike, any clue why Chevrolet and GMC would use different conduit clamps? When I had the Chevrolet light on my truck briefly, that clamp worked like a champ.

Jeff and Pat, Here is the clip I make. I found the original on the truck that came hitched to my Fruehauf Semi trailer. I knew what it was as soon as I saw it because I already knew that there was supposed to be a flexible conduit on the wires to the lamp. Later, when Jim Carter and I were digging around in his basement full of used parts, we found them on a couple more old brackets. In the mean time, I had found them in the parts catalogs.
Jeff, There are a couple of lamps on eBay. One complete and nice with opening bid $70. Another rough and incomplete with opening bid $20. I have some also.
Went to the Goodguys show in Columbus Ohio and found new tail lights with LEDs for a little less then 100 each ready to go on so I am going to rethink this project,I have about 150 in two original lights that still need to be painted and then need to figure out what bulbs I am going to use. My truck has been converted to 12 volts and needs all the help it can get for brighter tail lights so those new lights might be a no brainer so I will make a decision after I pay some bills.
