Hi.
I am contemplating buying these rocker panels for the 39 4 door. (see link on ebay)
Do they really follow the correct contour or are they an approximation?
Maybe the pics angles aren't the best but they do not seem to have the curve where the rocker panel joins the front door post.
ebay EMS rocker panel
Has anyone using them. how does the job look?
Many thanks.

EMS makes 2 styles of rocker panels - 1) this style which have a slight taper front to back more for replacing a chunk of the rocker and 2) a style that has the taper on the front and rear so is a full exact replacement piece.

EMS panels fit fairly well and can be purchased from many retailers. Check EMS website to see what they offer for your car then you can see if ebay is a deal or not....

Here is an old post on EMS replacement panels :41 Rocker Panel Replacement

Attached are pictures of the replacement process. Needless I am not a fan of EMS, having done both cowls and the passenger side rocker panel and front floor and a few floor braces. The good thing was the galvanized parts did have a good gauge of metal and with time and patience you can make things work. My final product would be very hard to tell it was not NOS parts.

A good bodyman will make things right.

Good luck, Mike

Those don't look like EMS panels on Ebay. EMS panels are galvanized and quite heavy. I have used their rockers on a 38. The outside rockers fit pretty well but the cowl pieces were a different story. I also noticed that the Ebay vendor did not have a 100% rating.

In their catalog, the rocket panel for the 2 doors in described as:
2-dr Sedan & Coupe - Well made, finely
detailed, one piece, die-stamped 18
gauge steel panels which precisely
duplicate the original factory curves and
shapes, including the bead on top of the
rocker. Fits the door curve properly!!
Panels extend completely from hinge pillar to rear door post.

Where as the ones for the 4 door are:
4-dr Sedan - For the 4dr Sedan we offer a fabricated multi piece
Rocker panel kit for each door that is a very acceptable product.
Order for each door separately. Specify Left or Right.

What could be the reason they have the stamped product only the 2 doors? Maybe not enough requests. Is there anyone else making the 39 rocker panels out there?

Rocker panels in the USA are the metal body parts just under the doors. They tie the bottoms of the "A", "B" & "C" pillars together. The pillars are the front door post, center post and rear door post.

They are occasionally called sills here as well. The metal covers that are installed on the top are most often called sill covers. Go figure!

Tonysk there are several other differences in terminology between NZ, USA and Aus that take a bit of deciphering but we generally sort ourselves out as you have just done.
