Does anyone have any good pictures of the top linkage where it hooks to lift cylinders? I am assembling a car and think I’m missing a whole arm on each side. I have lift cylinders but nothing that they would attach to. There is a hole in top arm and it looks like a pivot on the body. It looks like I will need some parts but don’t know where to look. Any body have any ideas? Are there any of these cars around for parts?

I need something more detailed if I can . It looks like I’m missing the link and yoke . We got the car this way missing some parts and it’s been hard finding things for this.

See below:

I think the pieces you are missing are those on the red towel. At the junction of the arms is a threaded plate that the vacuum shaft screws into.

The other two photos show the position of the horn relay which is just below the voltage regulator.

The photos of the top pieces are part of my project car and will go with it when I sell the car.

I think these parts may be found on all GM convertibles of the forties except for Cadillac.

They may be hard to find.

Best,

Charlie computer

BTW: The length of the arms are the same. The photos make it look like they are two different lengths but they are not. One for the left and one for the right.

Mike, If you need dimensions for the assist springs that are necessary for the top to work once you get the arms fabricated let me know. I think I still have an original spring that I can measure.

Attached is a picture of an original spring and it's tan canvas cover although I would expect the cover color to match the inside of the applicable top. The overall length of the spring is 12" with a 13/16" outside diameter. The wire diameter is about .135" and it has about 70 coils. The closest thing I could find at the time was part number 5518 made by Century Spring Corp. Los Angeles, Ca. If I recall correctly, I had to heat and twist one end of the new spring to re-orient it 90 degrees.
