I'm restoring a 55 convertible and was told the top pump fuild was brake fuild. Is this correct or can I use ATF? Thanks

the company I bought my new top pistons from for my 1950 told me to use auto. transmission fluid. I put in all new lines and cleaned out the pump back in 1990 and have had no problems.
