have a fellow VCCA member who spends his money on old cars and not computers, he asked me if I could post here and obtain torque readings for a 36 chev, for mains, rods and head bolts. Or if there is a source for this infomration let me know. \thanks.

This is interesting I posted the question relating to torque readings on 11/3 and have recieved no replies from other members of this forum. The other day I posted the same question on another chevrolet forum and recieved 3 replies in the same day or so.

On Nov.3rd & 4th was in Michigan retrieving my '50.I would have noticed it on this forum if I would have been home.Once the message is "beyond" the "the most active postings" on this forum its can be lost, making it necessary to search each catagory to find them after a day or so.Due to that I never even saw it here.Thats why if you don't log in each day things can "slip thru the cracks" and you never see them.

The only place I have seen the torque specs is in an old Motor's AUTO Repair Manual. I have the 10th edition and it has some of the specs, but I don't know if I would use them.

For instance, it says 55-60 lbs/feet for rod bearings and I think you will chew up the dipper bolt holes with it that high. I am using around 40 and it seems to be OK. It also lists 100-110 for mains and 75-80 for the head. These sound OK to me. Any comments??????

Another option is to use a '50s manual. It lists the torque specs and shouldn't be too far off. I think the rod bolts are the same size but I don't know about the rest......Good Luck

I had advised him to use the 216 engine torque specs. The 216 used the same size rod and head bolts etc.The four center main bolts were of a smaller size on a 206 but they should take the 100 ft. lbs. OK.---head bolts 70-80,rods 35-45,-the most important ones.

My info search shows these settings for 1936: spark gap .032, point gap .020, dwell angle 35 degrees, firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4, timing ball, timing mark location flywheel, valve lash In .006H EX .013H, head torque 75 to 80, main torque 100 to 110, rod torque 40 to 45, flywheel torque 55 to 60. Hope this info is useful and correct.
