Hello,

Recently a friend and I picked up the remains of a 1920 Chevy Model T one ton truck. A barn find chassis with metal remains of the express bed.

The cowl and front fenders are gone, and we're thinking replacements are non existent, so we are going to have to fabricate/build.

I've found some pictures and videos on the web to guide us, and have picked up some books.

If anyone has info on these trucks, or has parts, or can supply us with detail photos as we move along, we'd appreciate it.

I haven't found stats on how many of these were made, or how many still exist. If anyone knows, please advise.

Thanks

2-2202 to 2-3617 (New York)
3-1301 to 3-2363 (St. Louis)

9-356 to 9-755 (Oshawa)

According to the Zenith literature, the Q4C was used in 1918 and 1919; and in 1920 the T4 was used.

Not disagreeing, I do not have the Chevrolet literature, just the Zenith.

I believe you are right. Just wondering if they actually have a 1920.

The Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum (AGSEM) near San Diego, CA has a one-owner 1919 Model T that is completely original except that old Grandma painted it once. ;-)

If you contact them, maybe they can take some pictures and talk to you about it.

They should be able to check the serial number, and determine if in the 1920 range.

I finally got around to checking my Chevrolet parts books. They indicate the Q4C for 1918 to 1920 Model T truck with no mention of the T4 model carb.
The Zenith T-4XF is mentioned for model F, FA and FB. The T4 may have been offered as a replacement by Zenith maybe?

The Chevrolet Model T 1 ton truck used the Zenith Q4C with attached Monarch Governor at least through 1922. The "MASTER PRICE LIST OF PARTS" effective July 1st, 1922 lists part number 43423 "Carburetor (Zenith, Size Q-4-C, for D-4-A Monarch Governor)" on page 96. The * footnote "Indicates All Models and Years." Since 1922 was the last year of production it is safe to say the same carburetor model was factory installed on all Chevrolet Model T trucks. It is the one on our 1920 Model T truck.

Chipper - thanks for posting the above. This is why I earlier posted that I was not disagreeing. Generally, when there is a conflict between the carburetor manufacturer's literature and that of the vehicle manufacturer's literature, the vehicle literature is more apt to be correct (not always). Zenith may have made the mistake, as the T4 was used on passenger Chevrolets, or Chevrolet may have told Zenith they were going to use the T4, changed their mind, and used them on passenger vehicles.

At any rate, based on Chipper's post, I will be changing my database to reflect the Q4C on all model T trucks.

Jon.

Chipper - does the parts book state that all of the model T trucks used a governor?

My interpretation of that listing is all Model T trucks used the same carburetor and governor.

Thank you for all your replies and helpful information.

The truck seems to be a 1920. The block and head have casting dates dated early 1920.

The serial tag is gone, so I can't go off that. The whole cowl is missing.

The truck had two carbs with it, both Q4C. One had a Monarch governor and another with Kramer governor. Both still had padlocks on them.

I'll post some photos when I can.

I was trying to figure out how to link to photos on here. I uploaded some photos of the "T" to photobucket. See link.

Brian,
Thanks for the pics. It is a great find. Good luck finding some tin for it. I wish I had something you could use. Not much 1920ish stuff around here.
It looks like the parts you have are pretty good.

It had the express style body. We actually have many of the metal bed brackets and the complete tailgate. I think we will replicate that.
