Can someone identify this tire cover? It is 29 inches inside diameter, and the hub cap opening is seven inches. It has the two jack knife clamps at the lower part and the hook clamp that fits over the tire at the top, just like the genuine '34 Master. It also has two gold/bronze pin strips on each side of the bead on the face and a stainless steel band.. It does not have the Chevrolet emblem. About 25 years ago, I responded to an ad in Hemmings that said it was for a 1934 Master. When it arrived I saw it wasn't, and I got stuck with it. It is about time I sell it, but first, I need to find out what it fits.

Bill, That could be a 35 Standard. Do you know what the 34 Masters looks like and what the specs are? I bought one years ago that I was told was for a 35 Standard but am told it is for a Masters. Not sure for 34 or 35. Inside diameter is 30" and the center opening is 8". I also have one with the wide center opening that shows the spokes that someone told me was for the Masters. I have no clue what they are for. Maybe we can work something out. Here are some pics.

Peter, 34-35 Standards do not have a Chevrolet Bow Tie on them, Masters do. 34-35 Standards are the same with the exception of early 34 Standard which has a smaller opening for the smaller Hub Cap. Your 6th picture is a 34 Master. Your 5th picture along with pictures 3 and 4 are for a 35 Master. Is the 7th picture the back side of number 6? Number 10 looks like the back of number 6. The first picture is of number 6 right? That's the 34 Master. Bill's looks like a 35 Standard to me.

Jon,
Numbers: 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 are all of the same cover. #1 and #6 are the front, and #7, #8, and #9, are the underside of the front, showing the diameters of the cover and the hub cap hole. #10 is the back piece of #6.

#2, #3, #4, and #5 are all of the other cover. #2, and #5, are the front piece, and #3, and #4, are of the back piece.

So is the 34 Masters the same as the 35 Standard except that the Masters has the stainless trim and the bow tie?

I also thought that the hub caps for 34 and 35 Standards were the same size. Why the different diameter hole in the tire cover? Did they change wheels part way through 34?

Yes the 34 Masters are the same as 35 Standard except 34 Masters have Bow Tie and SS Trim. Early 34 Standards wheels had a smaller Hub Cap.

Thank you for replying,Peter. The gray cover is for a 1934 Master; it's called a drum-type in the 1934 Chevrolet accessories catalog. I have several drum-types, and I am now looking for the 1934 ring-type. Here is a picture of a cover on a 1935 Master that was for sale at the Charlotte Motor Speedway swap meet this past week. It looks like the black one that Jonjet said is a '35 Master. What is that at about the four o'clock position in your # 6 photo?

Bill, I took off the stainless ring to polish it up and primer the cover. I taped the clips to the ring so I wouldn't lose them. Is the stainless ring on yours around the outside edge or on the face between the pin stripes? I guess the bottom line for me is this. I have a 35 Standard Coach. Though maybe not correct, will the cover I have, pics 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, fit on my car?

It will fit on your car. I had a 34 Master Cover on my 35 Standard for years until I found the correct one. Then I needed a 34 Master Cover for my 34 after I sold the Cover.

I don't think the hubcap opening would be the same between any Master and Standard series cars. The only possible one I could think of would be '33 Master and
'34(late)/'35 Standard. Am I missing something?

Mike, You are correct but if you had a Master Cover on a Standard wheel the hub cap would fit as the hole would be too big. Would not work if Standard Cover was on a Master, hole too small.

Well, since it has no bow tie and has a seven-inch hub cap opening, I will call it a 1935 Standard cover and offer it for sale as such. I will ask $300.00.

So did both the Master and the Standard use the 525/550 17 tires even though the hub cap opening was different? I think the Masters was a 6 lug wheel, right? Was it still 17" or was it 18"?

Peter, Yes both used 17" Tires but the Hub Cap size is different. All Masters are 6 Lug, Standards are 5 Lug. 33 Masters used 18". There was an 18" Wheel for 35 Standards for Ambulances and Doctors cars.

Bill,
Do you still have the 35 Standard spare tire cover and do you still want $300 for it? Are you still looking for the 34 Master spare tire cover? You said the gray cover (in my pics above) is a 34 Master cover. I paid $300 for it, so we are in the same ballpark. Let's make a deal. The cover is in perfect shape except that one of the clips is missing the last piece. Other than that it is primed and ready for paint. I don't know if the Masters cover is worth more than the Standard cover because of the stainless ring and the Chevy emblem or not. I have no idea if it is a rare piece or not. Frankly, I don't care. I have yours, you have mine. Let's make a deal. You can email me if you have any questions. My email address is under my "profile". If you want some more pics, let me know and I will send them too you. Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Peter V

Peter, I now have the two ring-type covers that I was looking for. The gray one in your picture is the drum-type, and I have two of those also. Thank you for the offer.
