I am rebuilding my seat adjusters. I have not been able to move my seat back and forth since I purchased the car in 2003. I adjusted the seat all the way back several years ago when I had it out. I have disassembled the driver side adjuster and found it bent as well as the mechanism for the handle with loose rivets where it attaches to the adjuster. I made repairs to both and now am ready to lubricate the adjuster. I assume bearing grease could be used? I have include pictures to show my progress. All suggestions are appreciated. I will use screws with nuts rather than rivets to hold the rail pads in place.

Thanks, Mike

Mike,

I have the same trouble with the grey car. Seat is stuck in the most forward position. It is annoying. bike

I'm going to get me some jacks (one for each side) and force it back. The seat will have to move or the firewall will. I ani't gonna take that sucker apart. tooth

I figure it is merely stuck and needs a little persuasion. Agrin

I've got to do something. dance

Take a look at fig. 45 on page 33 of your shop manual. My '40 is a little bit different but I had problems with the 2nd cross rod from the left in the figure. It had stretched (mis-aligned) over the years until the catch on the right side was not releasing when the adjusting lever was raised. When everything is installed properly you can raise the adjusting lever and the seat will slide to the rear most position by itself. I used lube grease on mine but was kind of skeptical of using any lubricant since it gets so dusty under the seat because the cowl vent blows all dust on the front floor to the rear.

I forgot to replace the clip 11.582 that holds the adjuster rod between the seat rail sides. Now i have to remove the seat again to stop the rattle!
