How do I get the ball housing of the torque tube? I have gotten the u joint off but there is not enough spacer to slide the housing off. Do you need to loosen the rear end or remove the transmission?
In the process of changing the turque tube bushing and seal

you need to find an original repair manual and that should tell you how to do it.

Hopefully somebody here knows.

I assume all years would be the same. That being said I think you either have to jack up the pumpkin or let it hang down more. If you have the car sitting on it wheels then try jacking up on the rear of the frame/body. One way or the other will let the torque tube pull back to allow its removal. Been a while since I did that so hope I'm not
giving you wrong advise.

Due to the YK frame design in a 1934 Master believe the torque tube will not drop low enough.
I think removing the tranmission would be easier that pulling the rear end.

I have not done so on a 34 but on my 32 I found it much quicker and easier to remove the rear axle. Also easier to change the torque tube bushing with the rear axle removed.

Okey, will try to jack it up and see if not I will remove the transmission, easier as I dont have enough space to take the axle out. I have the repair manual and after what I could read it just said to remove the ball housing but I cant lift or lower the torque tube enugh to clear the transmission when pulling the housing forward

When you jack the car up, place the rear jack stands under the chassis, not the rear axle. This will cause the rear axle to hang lower and you will gain some room in the u-joint area.

I just pulled the transmission out, and good was that. Way to much play on incoming axle. Took it apart and both bearings is finished, missing teeth and shifter fork is worn out where the gearshifter goes into them. Parts orderd and salvage gears from a donor from the woods and hope to be back in the car by the weekend

Hey Kaare!
So awesome to hear Chevy's are alive in Norway! I have a 35 Master and have had the trans in/out numerous times. On a 35, it is a good idea to remove the interior shifter/gas pedal floor panel. This allows you to raise the driveshaft without removing the trans.

I unbolted the rear u-joints on my 35 to move the axle back (or forward) as needed when replacing my bushings. Easy to do (note: I have a lift!). Check out the Filling Station tech articles. They are the best source in the USA for old Chevy parts.

I used to own a 37 Ford and could find everything... Chevy's are a challenge, but that is the fun!

This, VCCA, is a great site... lot's of knowledgeable fellas.

Good luck and keep us posted! :)

I have nothing inside the car at this moment so acces thru the floor was good :) u joint in the back of the transmission was also worn out. But the previous owner had put a new clutch in it when he "overhauled" the engine. Just get the transmission back together and the only thing left is to get the interior made and put in and we should be ready :)
