Hi There group I have a 1939 GMC truck witha newer 1949 engine. I think Canadian casting #s too. to make it interesting Here is what I have found and the ? is not found yet. Maybe you have info I do not have yet. Please help
1. Engine casting code 3835766 in front of fuel pump Circle with square in it Date code J139 so that is Oct 13 1949 The push rods are 10 5/8 long so it is a 235 It has 2 studs holding down the valve cover Also between the 1-2 and 5-6 spark plugs it is smooth.
2. Head casting # 3695451 been told it is 50-52. The US cast code for the same head is 3835499
3. water outlet casting 3836209 1954 261 engine
4. water pump casting 839403 I have no info ?
5. exhaust man 838387 I have no info ?
6. intake man 938396 I have no info ?
7. Carb Carter W1 I have no info ? on what it was put on
8. Rear end cast code which is upside down is 1804207 I have not figured out how to add pics yet

My Canadian 1951 GMC 1 Ton had the same head casting number and it is a 216. It has the short side cover just like yours would. My head was cracked so I now have a replacement on it with a US casting number of 3835499. This motor was used from 1950 to 1952. There was a similar motor used in the US but it was a 235.
My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .

My information shows a 1951 216 head will have a casting number of 3695450, block 5792153, intake manifol 5792092 and exhaust 3694164.
The 3835499 head is for a Us 1950-1952 235 and can be used on a Canadian 216 as long as the larger 235 intake valves are retained.

It is interesting that my replacement head with the US casting number came from a Canadian motor. The intake openings fit the 216 alignment sleeves.
My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .
