We are in the process of patching up the front fenders of our 31 and the spare tire wells were completely rusted out. So, we purchased new wells to weld to the original fenders. However, we are finding that the new wells and the spare tires match up but the opening on the original fenders are too small by almost half an inch. We have had to go through and rebuild the attachment lip on the fender that the wells attach to as well. Is this mismatch common challenge or are we missing something?

The reproduction wells are actually 1932 which were ~1/2" wider than '29-'31.

Thanks for the info. So in 1932 did they start using a wider wheel as well? The tires that are on the car are what is specified for a 1931 but they don't fit in the original fenders either.

The original tire size in 1931 was 4.75 x 19' modern replacements are 4.75 - 500 which makes them wider. 1932 wheel and tire size changed to 5.50 x 18 " which are wider still. The wider wells will accommodate the modern replacement tires., as the 1932 overall diameter is about the same as the 1931 , 19" wheels and tires
