We need some help to determine which fuel gauge we need for a '49 3100.

Both of the new gauges from Chev of the 40's appear to be about 3/16" too thick. Everything works fine electrically when we test with the sending unit, When we install the chrome face it traps the needle so it cannot move.

We also noticed that the new fuel gauges push the overlapping edges of the adjacent 2 gauges up and away from the back of the housing.

The 1929-1954 parts book lists different fuel, oil, and ammeter gauges for 1947-48 compared to 1949-53.

I wonder if we have an early '49 truck that has a leftover '48 instrument panel installed.

Any ideas on how to determine this?

Rusty....Most of the Advance Design truck guys with accurate information have left the VCCA Chat for the greener pastures of the Stovebolt Page.

Post your electrical gauge question over on the Bolt.... there are guys waiting to answer your questions.

Thanks for the guidance. Great timing on my part. I established a Stovebolt account this morning.

By the way, I am in your part of the world for a few days. I was able to find a ride to Iowa for the running boards so delivered them to Apache Junction early this week where they will begin their trip. We will pick them up at the Cedar Rapids AACA Swap Meet in mid-April.

You could also reach out to the VCCA Technical Advisor Bob Adler. bobadler@nycap.rr.com 518-733-5749. Many who are die hard dedicated to the hobby are members of both organizations.
