Hi The front seat on my 37 seems too far forward and makes entry a hassle . The adjuster is all the way back . Some old rides have a second set of holes to move the seat back further but I don't see any or they are covered over with dirt / rust . Is their a way to move the seat further back ?
Get a good flashlight and look up under the front seat. The seat is on a track. See if there is anything obstructing its travel. If you can't see anything then you may have to take the seat out.
Seats are held in by a couple bolts on each side. Just undo the bolts (from underneath the car) and pull the seat out.
Once you have the seat out, examine the two mechanisms (tracks and traveler) and clean them up or whatever it takes. Get them to travel as they should.
Then, reinstall. Problem should be resolved. You should be able to pull the seat farther forward and back as desired. The reason the seats don't move easily, as they should, is dirt in variable forms and lack of use.
Good luck with it. You will need to get someone to hall you take the seat out but can be done, with more difficulty, by yourself. A little bit at a time.
I hope this information encourages you to fix it.
Best,
Charlie
BTW: Now that I h ave jumped in here and given you my best advice, stand by and surely as death and taxes, others will now jump in and give you a lot better advice. Well, if so, that's a good thing.
BTW2: I don't know if other holes are provided for the seat to be installed.
I had this same problem with my 38 until I learned to turn my foot. Getting out also requires me to step back over the running board. My feet are size twelve. I found that a unique quirk of the design.
With regard to drilling more holes for mounting, I doubt that you could get much more room. The seat mechanism is mounted on thick steel mounting plates that are drilled and tapped.

My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .
I'm 6'4" and wear size 16 shoes. Once in my '38 I'm OK but turning my foot sideways is a must getting in and out. With my seat all the way back there's plenty of belly/steering wheel room. Now room side to side is another story.

I have a 41 2 door sedan that I didn't find to be comfortable getting in and out, and I felt to close to the steering wheel. I am tall with long arms so I retapped the floor plate to allow the seat adjuster to sit more towards the back seat. I think I moved the seat less than 2" back but it sure added a lot of comfort for me. I wanted to make my car more comfortable for me to drive. There is still plenty of room to get in and out of the back seat and no one but me can tell the difference. I also used a long enough bolt to accommodate a lock washer and nut to better anchor the seat to the floor plate, and installed seat belts in the front and back.
Thanks Guys for the input . I guess I just have to learn how to enter and exit properly . I do not want to change the original design of the car . I like everything as original as possible .
I misread your initial post. I erroneously thought the seat may not have been all the way back but upon a reread I see that you said that it was. Silly me.
It now appears that merely finding out the best body fold for exit will take care of the problem.
I believe Mike's solution may be a better solution than becoming a contortionist. See below:
Good luck with achieving your comfort zone whilst wheeling and dealing your good old 37.
