Okay, Jon.

I found two with the big "C" on them. Trouble now is they don't seem to have "421" on the base.

This is getting couriser and courser (Whatever Alice said). Is too.

BTW: I've called off the contract. John, my go-between on these type contracts, said they had already left the "Show Me" state. He said he would try to stop them enroute. I hope he's successful. I do too! Agrin

BTW2: Think I'll skip the "421" stiff amd just go with the 839500 tag and the big "C." Think that will work?

Charlie - The following quote is from an earlier post in this thread:

"The problem with locating the flange mounting numbers were the commercial carburetor rebuilders. To verify that the throttle body was flat (I have yet to see a warped W-1) the mounting flange was violated with a surfacing machine, often removing the flange stamp."

Another possibility, and I cannot confirm or deny this: It may be possible that Chevrolet did NOT stamp the bottom of the flanges on the Bay City built carbs. I never really looked into that possibility. Because of the rebuilders, the stamp is present way less than half the time. I don't need it, so I never gave it a lot of attention.

Since the 421 is/was for ease of identification only, and cannot be seen when the carburetor is on the engine, I wouldn't worry about it not being present.

So I'm going with the big "C" and the 839500 tag. That should be satisfactory.

I have a Question, I have a W-1 Carb supposed to be a 49 Chevrolet accelerator pump barrel is only about 1/2 up in Fuel reservoir, Is this standard on the 49 as pump spring goes on top of pump rather than under it ?

Yes.

The 1949 carb (Carter 684s) has many unique features. The accelerator pump with the spring on top, and the pump well that is maybe 1/2~5/8 tall is one of them.

Hi, Just looked at my two w1 carbs and the #421 did not show until I lightly sanded the flange

I'm not considering the 421 number as important anymore. Who can know for sure one didn't have the 421 and it was too faintly etched or has been scrubbed away. laugh dance
