Could it be cause it is a 1931 engine?

I think you are correct MrMack, a '29 or '30 has a different clutch housing from this one.

My guess would be a '31 because JYD said so.

Hey Chev Nut..........your first guess was a 1929. ha ha! Actually, the 1929-30 engines used a stamped steel "transmission support" instead and it is totally different than the cast iron clutch housing shown here. The first year to use this type of cast iron clutch housing was 1931. laugh laugh laugh laugh

Does it seem odd to you guys that someone spends "$1800.00" for a rebuild on a motor that he doesn't know the year of???? Buyer beware! :(

Looks like he is chopping up and parting out the whole '31, piece by piece. :( :(

I also question the "rebuild" of that motor as well. New gaskets and fresh oil doesn't count as a "rebuild".   :( :( :(

With the body separated from the frame (background of photo) and listing the other major parts looks like a street rod project to me. I will bet my next raise that he purchased a restored '31 with a reported rebuilt engine (may have the receipts) that he is replacing with a V-8, rack and pinion steering, etc., etc., etc.
