I am following up a lead I got from Ken O and debating a very cold 16 hour road trip to Regina CAN. to look at a 36 standard 4 dr. Almost complete car minus cyl head, front clip and a few other parts. I have done some searching here but was unable to determine if the body is the same as my US model. Is the body a Fisher? The body tag does not have the Z that denotes a steel door model. Did all Canadian 36s have steel doors? I understand hub caps are different, how much of it will interchange with mine? I am waiting for some more pictures from the owner before I make a decision but his price is very reasonable. Any insight would be very appreciated,
Is there a Fisher Body oval on the right lower cowl? My Canadian book indicates 1936 models were assembled at the Oshawa plant. The Canadian cars have a big plate on the right side of the firewall with engine, body and serial number. Should be a model 1209, 1219 or a "Special" # 1299....I se it is a 1299 so it is a Deluxe model Standard.. I would guess the body would be the same as US cars but some hardware may be different. Would also sat it would be more likely Canadian cars had all wood doors. The body number indicates it was a fairly early car.
Hi Steve, I just ran out to look at my CDN '36 Standard 2 door Sedan. It has a "Body by Fisher - Canada" oval on the lower RH cowl, the firewall plate indicates Oshawa, Walkerville and Regina as Canadian GM build plants. My body is number 2173 with no "Z" indicator, but my doors are ALL STEEL. Perhaps 4 door models are different??
Canadian Standard models (except coupe and convertible) serial numbers ran from 0001 thru 13638. 10432 is that cars number so it was a later production number (correction from my first post). Is that a "W" after the number? If you look inside the door from the top you can see the wood if it is wood.
I received new pictures of the doors. They look all steel. So I guess most parts should be same. Thank you for the lead Ken and for your information Gene. Much appreciated.
