Who sells the beveled glass for the speedometer and clock for the '41 - '48 Chevy passenger vehicles? I purchased some from Ronell Clock Co, but they aren't the right bevel. Perhaps i could utilize a slightly undersized piece from them as long a it is larger than the inner diameter of the bezel. Thought, suggestions?

You may want to buy a used speedometer that is not in good shape but has a good glass. They can be had on eBay. It would save you a lot of time and aggravation. Good hunting and good luck with it. Best, Charlie BTW: I probably have one but it's too dang cold right now to look for it. If you can wait untile spring then I go look. Only about 45-55 degrees here most of the time. Freezing my a.. off. Is too!

Rusty, I don't know how we can help you if you don't answer posts. What year do you need anyway? Best, Charlie

Looking in his profile, I guess it is his '46 Fleetmaster. He did say '41-'48. Glass only.

Russell, I was going out to brave the cold and look in the garage where I think some old 41 speedometers are to see if I had one for him. It appears that would be a waste of bundling up to brave the elements for no good outcome in that he has not posted since the initial one. It has been in the fifties here in NC for the last few weeks and I'm not venturing out in that for no good cause. I noticed in the paper this morning that it is today and tomorrow's forecast. Milwaukee 30/22 35/31 Minneapolis 23/15 25/7 Sioux Falls 23/19 27/9 Syracuse 34/4 22/18 MIAMI 74/60 77/62 (Caps used for infasis only, not yelling) I don't know how you northerners stand it. I don't see how your don't understand the math. I don't see why you don't move south to a warmer climate. Down around Homestead you can sit out by the cabana and have a Pino coloda and bask in the sun and watch young ladies in bikinies practicing their "beach walk" whilst way up there where you are you're chipping a hole in the ice in some private lake to try and catch a poor ol' fish. Maybe. Something is wrong with this here picture, don't you think? Mercy! Best, Charlie

Humans seem to adapt to what they are exposed to regularly. Fifties would be very nice here as we get full sun without any clouds. We would be on our patio with a beer. No bikinis but some shorts unless you have chicken legs like me.
Anything above 30F and many of us here don't wear jackets as jeans/sweatshirt is comfy. Anything down to 10F is no big deal. It was -8 this morning and only needed a medium jacket. No need for gloves or toque. Going skiing and snowmobiling in the mountains the end of this week and will need full winter gear as it will be close to -20 plus windchill.
The other end of the scale becomes a problem as we adapt to the cold. 70 and sunny is perfect and ideal. I find anything more than about 75 and sunny very uncomfortable to the point of immediately feeling exhausted and have to find shade. I went to SC in March as a teen and we were on the beach swimming while locals were wearing more clothes than we do in the winter.
I'm just tired of moving snow. We don't get much compared to north/central USA but it's aggravating as it seems to come when I am already too busy.

I am glad to hear that Charlie is braving the elements! Such dedication to our hobby!
I agree with Tim about adapting. As my mother says "You get used to hanging if you hang long enough."
So I missed a 6" snowstorm in the Quad Cites last weekend. I am enjoying the "cold" January in Scottsdale for 10 days. Only in the lower 60's and rain showers on at least 3 different days. Yesterday afternoon at Barrett Jackson it was upper 50's and 3 or 4 showers passed through. All the cars are under large tents so it was really not an issue. In fact it cleared the crowd out nicely.
Heading to Russo Steele today. Mid 60's and partly cloudy. The personality of the 2 auctions is so different. I enjoy going to both as much for that reason as the vehicles.

Rusty and Tim, I hear ya. While we're waiting for RH to come back on, I suppose it may be alright to go off the original thread a bit. I don't buy that argument by you northerners about adjusting to the cold. Although I do respect Rusty,s mother. Cold weather in the teens just can't be comfortable to anyone. Scandinavian ancestry included. I can't visualize anyone able to function in that kind of weather. Here are today's predictions up there and one for Miami: Today Friday (c = Cloudy, pc = Partly Cloudy, sn = Snow, sf = Snow Flurries, s = Sunny, sh = showers) The North Des Moines 32/17c 27/14sn Fargo 8/-10c -2/-17pc (Perhaps I shouldn't have included this one. No one lives there.) Milwaukee 36/21c 28/22c Minneapolis 24/8c 15/2c Omaha 35/22c 28/11sn Rapid City 37/14 18/8sn Sioux Falls 27/12c 15/-5sn Syracuse 22/18pc 35/9sf Note the minus (-) signs are correct. ---------------------------------------------------- DA South MIAMI 77/63pc 79/66pc ORLANDO 73/49s 75/54s NEW Orleans 68/58c 75/54sh You'll notice that I deliberately covered a wide expanse of the northern territory of the US of A. No singling out any one point of reference. Now I'm convinced that the weather reported for up north will just make you tingle with pure joy of such mind blowing cold weather that you'll immediately plan on a bear hunt, skiing trip, of some ice fishing or snow mobiling. Yes, sir. You'll be a encouraging the missus to get your sleeveless tee shirt ready as an outer, and only, upper garment because it may be a bit chilly on the lake whilst gutting fish with never a thought of what it may be like way down south. Unbelievable! There must be an inexplicable draw to cause you folks to live up there. Sort of magnetic. Mercy! Best, Charlie

Sorry guys, I don't get online as often as some. Yes it's a '46 Fleetmaster. I need the speedometer glass and clock glass. Is the '41 the same as the '42- '48?

Yes they are the same. I have a clock glass in the speedometer on my 47, the winding stem hole will not show.

RH, We have been looking everywhere for you! Send me your address. The glass is free, but you have to pay for the ride. I'll let you know the cost after I have sent it. Best, Charlie

Just wanted to let others know, 41specialdeluxe sent the lenses. They are in great shape, the clock is assembled and ready to install. People like Charlie and others of you who are willing to take time to give advise, help with parts, etc. are some of the many reasons the old car hobby is so enjoyable. Good people seem to be a scarce commodity these days, but the antique car hobby has more than its fair share. let's keep the tradition alive. I'll try to pay it forward. Mark
