Got a call from a friend in Sweden yesterday he is completing a restoration on a 41 and is having problems embedding (attaching) the stainless in the rear window weatherstrip. He is using a Steele weatherstrip. Has anyone dealt with the Special Deluxe rear glass window trim? My experience is only with the Master Deluxe rear window glass weatherstrip which does not have the stainless trim.

Here is what I have found so far:

1946-47 Body Manual rear glass installation Pg 71

1946-47 Body Manual Pg 72

1946_47 Body Manual Pg 180

Thanks, Mike

When I had the guys that cut the glass for my 47 Fleetline install the windshield and back glass I was glad I didn't try it. It was a pain to get the trim in the small rubber seal and then over the pinch weld, they charged what they said they would but if they ever did another one it would cost more. It was for sure a 2 person job, and I would recommend finding someone with that does glass install.

Thanks Dean,

I am wondering whether two rubber components are used for installing the glass and the stainless molding? Here is what I found from Steele's on-line catalog:

Steele Rear Window Gasket
Window Pinchweld Seal

Evidently, there is a gasket which we refer to as the rubber weatherstrip for holding the glass and also another rubber part called a pinchweld seal #70-0096-52 to attach the outer perimeter's reveal molding. The installation sheet from Steele to install both parts is shown in the first Steele link. Has anyone done the installation or know of a glass company I could call that does? I am thinking of giving Steele a call.

Thanks, Mike

The seal for the pinch weld is the smaller one that the trim goes in and the larger one goes around the glass. Once the seal is on the pinch weld and around the glass the the glass is installed from the inside against the seal on the pinch weld, then the garnish trim is installed as that is what holds the glass in.

The 1946 and 1947 Fisher Body Manual, on pages 71 and 72, has a detailed explanation of the sequence of installation. As mentioned, the pinch weld seal goes on the pinch weld first then the reveal molding is installed over it. Once the reveal molding is in place, the glass window, with its gasket in place is installed from the inside. From experience, the hardest part of the job is installing the reveal molding over the pinch weld seal. Lots of dish soap! Special Deluxe windshield is similar.
